Usually, I talk on this podcast about practices I’ve been incorporating into my life for a while. Today is going to be a little bit different. I’ve heard about Ayurveda for years, initially in the green beauty industry while working for an innovative eco-conscious vegan beauty brand.
A few years later, I heard about Ayurveda again in Spa environments and massages and all. Recently, I’ve learned that a huge chunk of Ayurveda is related to food. I’ve been following a vegetarian diet for almost 3 years now. I know that food is actually medicine. What we put in our bodies can either harm us or heal us. Despite eating vegetarian I have felt like I was not getting all of the benefits of this diet. I’ve still been suffering from a very sensitive stomach and most probably unknown intolerances to some foods.
As I like experimenting with different things, I felt that it was time for me to give Ayurveda a try. Since the beginning of this year, I’ve been incorporating a few Ayurveda practices here and there. I’m still learning about Ayurveda, I just wanted to have you join my discovery journey of this ancient holistic medicine through this podcast.
Ayurveda medicine is so many things in one. Actually here is one pretty amazing definition I stumbled upon:
“Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world's oldest holistic (“whole-body”) healing systems. It was developed more than 5,000 years ago in India.
It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease. But treatments may be geared toward specific health problems.
Everything in the universe – dead or alive – is connected. If your mind, body, and spirit are in harmony with the universe, you have good health. When something disrupts this balance, you get sick. Among the things that can upset this balance are genetic or birth defects, injuries, climate and seasonal change, age, and your emotions.”
Now you understand why I've got so many questions to ask Ayurveda practitioners.
Since Ayurveda is all about aligning our body, mind & soul, I’m going to follow this pattern and make a three-part series with three Ayurveda experts. We’ll start with the body, follow up with the mind and wrap up with the soul.
For part one "Aligning your mind with Ayurveda", I invited Dr. Sheetal Ajmani, a pediatrician, best-selling author, ayurveda lifestyle consultant, yoga instructor, and mindfulness advocate. She's also the founder of Radiant Living, where with her holistic approach - which combines modern science, psychology, mindset, Ayurveda, yoga, and mindfulness - she helps women reclaim their worth, energy, and happiness in their life, career, and relationships.
IN THE 1ST PART OF THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT:
What's Ayurveda?
Ayurveda as a way of life;
A quick Dosha 101;
Listening to our bodies and their own specificities;
Incorporating Ayurveda into western medicine;
Daily self-care practices to be in your body;
And so much more ...
Don't forget to stay tuned for:
The second part of this episode - Aligning your body with Ayurveda.
But also for Part 2 of this series - Aligning your mind with Ayurveda.
And part 3 of this series - Aligning your soul with Ayurveda.
But right now let's focus on the body.
Listen up to this gem!
Namaste listeners,
